Akil Khalfani for U.S. Congress NJ 10th Congressional District
ABOUT DR. AKIL KHALFANI
I have dedicated most of my life to building a more fair, just, and equitable American society. As a sociologist, I have written extensively and taught about the inequalities and injustices that permeate our society. Now, I am committed to using my expertise and training to serve the people of the 10th district and all Americans in a practical, impactful way. I am deeply aware that the sacrifices of those before me have paved my way, and I am driven to honor their legacy through my work.
Many of us are extremely dissatisfied with our current representation in Congress. We need a representative who champions a progressive agenda for positive change. I refuse to accept the status quo. It is imperative that we step outside our comfort zones to foster courageous and sometimes difficult conversations about the future for all Americans.
As a change agent, author, and professor, my commitment to community service is long-standing. I earned my doctorate in Sociology from the University of Pennsylvania and currently serve as the Director of the Center for Global Education and Experiences, Director of the Africana Institute, and Associate Professor of Sociology at Essex County College. I am also the author of "The Hidden Debate: The Truth Revealed about the Battle over Affirmative Action in South Africa and the United States."
My community service has been recognized by the United States Congress, the California State Senate, the New Jersey State Assembly, the New York Assembly, and various municipalities in New Jersey and New York. I served as Vice President of the West Orange African Heritage Organization, a Commissioner on the West Orange Human Relations Commission, an Advisor to the UNESCO Center for Global Education, and a member of the Essex-Newark Coalition to End Homelessness.
I work tirelessly for the people, and with your support on November 5th, we can take a significant step to ensure that the voices of the people are heard and acted upon.
